Enchantress Refit

Enchantress underwent a major refit in the 2008/2009 period and since returning from the 2009-2011 Blue Water Rally it has been undergoing another refit.

2011/2014 Refit Details

2008/2009 Refit


  • Sandblasting and epoxy painting of the keel
  • Removal of all antifouling and application of 7 coats of Gelshield 200 Osmosis protection on hull and keel.
  • Removal and inspection of 3-4 keel bolts
  • Removal and refurbish rudder and fittings
  • Renewal of all tank breathers
  • Remove and reseal all stantions and cleats


  • Replacement of all stainless steel standing rigging
  • Replacement of guardrails
  • Replace jackstays
  • Replacement of Genoa and Staysail furling systems
  • Overhaul of the Mainsail in-mast furling system
  • Add mast climbing steps to mast
  • Add 2nd Spinnaker system
  • Fit new winches and rope organiser system for mainsail reefing
  • Add additional lifeline attachments
  • Reseal Chainplates & check bolts
  • Replace most halyards/sheets
  • Buy backup mainsail
  • Replace Staysail
  • Buy staysail hank sleeve for storm sail

  • Fit Man Overboard Tracking system from Pinball & service MOB Watches
  • Replace lifebuoy & MOB retrieval system
  • Buy new GPS EPIRB  & service old EPIRB

  • Replace Danbuoy
  • Buy & Build  Storm Sea Drogue system

  • Strenthen Granny rails with proper bolts through deck
  • Replace forward  electric windlasses
  • Replace chain and anchor with system sized to best practice.
  • Fit Pinball's Spade anchor as 2nd anchor.
  • Fit 2nd bow roller & Samson post for mooring
  • Strengthen Anchor locker
  • Replace steering cables and conduits & service overall system
  • Transfer WindPilot system from Pinball
  • Upgrade electric autopilot system


  • Replace Navtex weather system
  • Replace VHF system with dual station DSC model
  • Transfer Chart Plotter from Pinball
  • Fit Instrument Pod at wheel position
  • Replace SSB & add Pactor modem
  • Add AIS boat identification system

The original name of the boat revealed after much sanding. Branco was a famous Brasilian footballer.

The hull after the antifouling has been scraped off.

Minor surface cracks had to be filled before the Osmosis protection could be added.

3 keelbolts removed for checking.
